[más]King Charles Tower stands on the north east corner of Chester's City Wall and derives its name from a legend that says that King Charles stood on the top of this tower and watched his army suffer defeat at Rowton Moor. In fact Rowton Moor is not visible from the tower but nevertheless a plaque at the side of the door reads "King Charles Stood on this Tower Sept. 24 1645 and saw his army defeated on Rowton Moor".
The tower has been restored on numerous occasions over the years most recently during the 19th century. The tower is only open to the public on a handful of days during the year
