[más]The Gangtey Monastery stands on a hill over-looking the Phobjikha Valley and was founded in 1613 by Gyalse Pema Thinley, the grandson and reincarnation of the Pema Lingpa. It is a Nyingma monastery which follows the Nyingma form of Himalayan Buddhism. In addition to several temples inside the complex, this is a teaching monastery and home to monks of all ages.
In 2008 an extensive programme of renovation was completed and the monastery is now open again. Visitors will need to arrange an official government permit in order to visit.
