[más]The 100 Club is a live music venue in central London. It has been operating on the same premises since 1942 when it started as a jazz club. Its continuing success since then has been due to its ability to move with the changing scenes in music. From jazz it moved to the trad jazz revival in the 1950s, followed by the Mersey sound, blues, R’n’B, then punk and reggae in the 1970s, and on to African jazz and Indie music. It attracted top performers, or about-to-be-top performers from all these movements. Famous names through the years include Glen Miller, Billie Holliday, Rod Stewart, The Who, The Rolling Stones, The Sex Pistols, The Clash and Oasis. DJs were introduced in the 1970s and continue to play between the live acts. Its fame and longevity have given the club an iconic status and it was saved from threat of closure recently by a campaign led by some famous music names.
The club has a capacity of 350 but tables cannot be booked. There is a bar and café. It is open most evenings from 7.30pm and there is a monthly lunch-time jazz session. The premises are also available for hire. 100 Club merchandise such as t-shirts, bags and badges can be purchased on the website.
