Strolling along this well-known promenade one encounters a number of stalls which sell curios and bric-a-brac for tourists, including the Zulu beadwork and woodwork for which Durban is known as well as a wide variety of Indian clothing and fabrics.
Out-of-season the amusement parks are closed, but there is nevertheless always a

I've had the pleasure of being aboard a few cruises of varying duration and at various times of day, including a trip to Robben Island and a number of their sunset cruises. The latter is by far my favourite as it affords the opportunity to see the sun sink into the ocean and return as the lights along the coast come on. Naturally one also has a totally different perspective of the City, Table Mountain, Signal Hill and Robben Island.

[12/01/2008] The Tudor Hotel is conveniently located on Greenmarket Square, adjacent to the Park Inn, which happens to have an intimate and cosy bar. It is the oldest hotel in Cape Town and therefore has such oddities as a minute, cranky elevator and somewhat small rooms. The bathroom was small and somewhat claustrophobic, consisting only of a toilet, shower and art deco basin. There is no restaurant or bar on the premises, but plenty of those are in the direct vicinity so it didn't pose a problem. The Tudor does, however, have a full breakfast buffet. This was ample but tended to be a bit monotonous after

Discounted tickets for persons taking both tours are available and, being reasonably priced at approximately 18 Euro for both itineraries, I consider this the most hassle free method of gaining a brief overview of the most popular tourist spots. Buses run at intervals of approximately 30 minutes and each route offers a selection of 13 stops. Being able to hop-on and hop-off, one can decide whether you wish to not explore a specific sight more closely or to remain behind and spend more time there un

Set in immense, natural gardens with awe inspiring views of the Umzimvubu River, ocean, mountains and nearby golf course, the Umzimvubu Retreat Guest House is a family-run establishment and the owners / hosts, who reside on the property, are therefore always available to assist with any enquiries. They are renowned for their hospitality and willingness to accom

[03/07/2006] A thoroughly enjoyable hotel with the added bonus that the prices are reasonable, the service is good and the view is to die for. During my stay there were noisy renovations outside, but that is a factor which I'm sure was of a temporary nature. Situated on South Beach, there is literally just the road to cross before one is on the beach and at the many activities and amusements offered along the "Golden Mile".

The route is dotted with "Kraals" (Zulu cultural villages) and market stalls which sell overpriced curios, African quilts, beadwork and trinkets. There is also a beautiful restaurant to stop at for refreshments. Tours visit a village where one is introduced to the traditional lifestyle, cookery and dancing. A journey through the Valley is well worth the effort if only for the serenity and beautiful landscapes, or the opportunity to taste the interesting wine produced from oranges and

[21/06/2006] Besides the numerous attractions and thrill of petting live cheetahs (like stroking an enormous, dangerous kitten), there is a variety of curios and interesting bric-a-brac to charm souvenir seekers and a delightful restaurant with extensive menu. I rate the Cango Wildlife Ranch as the highlight of my visit to the region, not purely for the enjoyment of the good facilities but also for the feel-good-factor of having been able to contribute to such a worthwile cause as preserving our wildlife at "the oldest and biggest cheetah contact centre worldwide". Certainly not an experience to be m

Facilities and ablutions are very well maintained and the variety of walks and hiking trails lead to tranquil areas of immense beauty, unexpected streams and pools where one can bathe in absolute solitude. There is also a trail which leads to the foot of the famous Tugela Falls where the "Tugela plummets 948m in five clear leaps, making it the world's second highest waterfall." An absolutely awe-inspirin

Weekends may be slightly crowded, but midweek the Avalon is definitely one of the best spots I have ever encountered for total relaxation.
