Descripción Jardín botánico Thokoza Park
trivago Descripción:
Thokoza Park is part of the Johannesburg system of city parks and is located in the Rockville section of Soweto. The 4.5-hectare recreational area includes Moroka Dam (named for Dr. James Moroka, an early leader of the African National Congress in its struggle against apartheid).
Aside from the lake, the park’s attractions include lawns, paved footpaths, and a network of streams working their way toward the dam--plus birds and water fowl taking refuge in the park’s wetlands and wooded areas. Thokoza provides a venue for exhibitions, concerts, and other community events, and its facilities include children’s playgrounds, picnic areas with braais (outdoor grills), and netball and basketball courts. The park is also the site of Soweto’s first decorative community fountain.
The dam and its surrounding park were established in 1960. A major renovation was completed in 2002, and in 2010, Thokoza received a gold medal under the London-based Liveable Communities program endorsed by the United Nations.
